History grade 5

Slavery began in colonial America and ended after civil war in the 1860s. George Washington Carver was born a slave, but received a college education and worked for Booker T. Washington. He pioneered crop rotation and promoted peanuts as a crop in the South as an alternative to cotton. His research made him influential, culminating with his testimony before congress in 1921. He didn’t let his rough beginnings or later discrimination hold him back from achieving much.
